Since 2022, the FBI Criminal Justice Information Service’s (CJIS) security policies have been incrementally modernizing to comply with NIST security standards and controls. This modernization process meets many law enforcement agencies with varying degrees of complexity as they field and operate a wide and increasing technology landscape that requires compliance. The impacts of these changes affect software, infrastructure, personnel, training, contracts, and budgets in a variety of ways that are somewhat contextually unique to the individual agency and their state. This panel brings together the leadership of the IACP CJIS Security Modernization Working Group with the FBI CJIS chief information security officer to frankly discuss these impacts; available solutions; and, most important, feedback or questions from other agencies and state CJIS officials.
