As law enforcement employs more sophisticated technology to fight crime, the U.S. Supreme Court views itself as the seawall against the increasing waves of technology used by law enforcement in the battle to fight crime. An analysis of Katz v. United States, United States v. Jones, and Carpenter v. United States provides a unique view into the Supreme Court’s perspective of increasing reliance on technology by law enforcement and how that challenges the protections afforded by the Fourth Amendment.
