From 2018, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) worked together to infiltrate the highest levels of organized crime globally. FBI Operation Trojan Shield and AFP Operation Ironside captured communication on Anom, a dedicated encrypted device platform. Developing the platform, introducing it into the criminal community and converting the vast intelligence collected through this investigation into operational outcomes provided unprecedented challenges to law enforcement and valuable lessons learned on international law enforcement collaboration, risk management and leadership.
