Director of Research Royal Canadian Mounted Police Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada
In this unprecedented research project, with more than 800 cadets/members participating in the study, researchers are measuring the psychological and physiological changes that occur between when a person enters the training academy to the end of the first five years of duty. Establishing baselines is a critical piece missing from the scientific knowledge and will highlight how and when early intervention should occur so agencies can better support the mental health of police officers. Understanding when psychological injuries occur will give the necessary tools and knowledge that police agencies need to better support their officers’ mental health. The evidence presented will range from discussing the effects of daily self-monitoring to monitoring mental health changes using different psychometric measures.
