Law enforcement agencies, including small and mid-sized ones, need to better understand AI use. The notion that AI is only the province of large agencies is a misnomer. Many solutions are scalable and applicable to challenges confronting smaller jurisdictions. Recent advances in AI have focused national and international attention on AI use and its impact on public trust. AI can analyze and identify patterns in vast amounts of data from various sources offering leads that might otherwise be overlooked. It can integrate with police data systems to streamline data entry, retrieval, and sharing, and enhance collaboration among investigators, prosecutors, and other stakeholders. This session explores the advantages and challenges of AI for mid-sized and small agencies identifying AI uses and showcasing AI management tools.
