From Words to Action: Bringing Communities into Policing

To excel, police leaders must be tuned into the complexities of the communities they serve. With growing diversity and dynamic change, agencies face questions about their legitimacy, fairness, and effectiveness in meeting public needs within resource constraints and operational challenges. This calls for revisioning who we are and how we meaningfully involve communities. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police will candidly discuss changing culture and systems through experiences in creating the most diverse pre-cadet troops, introducing an inclusive recruitment and retention program, and launching race-based data collection pilots. Participants will leave with insights into innovative approaches, outcomes achieved, and solutions to overcoming organizational limitations and systemic barriers.
