The Military Veterans Wellness Program is a first of its kind law enforcement program to improve the well-being of military veterans and prevent suicide and homelessness. The program provides training to help officers gain a better understanding of the issues veterans may be facing, as well as additional de-escalation training and guidance on how to connect a Veteran to help. This federal-level community policing program was developed in partnership with many federal agencies and has been in practice in Canada since 2022. The session will review the development and content of the program so attendees can bring these efforts back to their own communities around the globe to help prevent veteran suicide and homelessness.
