Deputy Commissioner Shawna Coxon is a senior police leader with more than 27 years of experience. She is currently the Deputy Commissioner of Strategy, Governance and Performance of An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s National Police and Security Service. Prior to this appointment in 2021, Shawna Coxon was a Deputy Chief of Police with a large police service in Canada.
Throughout her career in both Ireland and Canada, Deputy Commissioner Coxon has led on numerous innovative projects including new operating models, redefining core policing, improving culture and morale, civilianisation and new technology including Body Worn Cameras, connected officer and robotic process automation.
Deputy Coxon has her PhD in Criminal Law from Leicester University in the U.K. and a M.A. in Criminology from the University of Toronto in Canada. She has published and spoken internationally. She has a passion for policing, people, innovation, technology and futurism. Many of her advances are novel as she seeks to reshape the role of police toward a community-centric, trusted community partner.
