Edward C. Keane, Ph.D., is a professor of forensic and police psychology. His teaching, research, and training focus is officer wellness and crisis negotiations. As a former special deputy sheriff in Fairfield County, Connecticut, he instituted in-service training for sheriffs. He works with agencies, including the Danbury Connecticut Police Department and the Connecticut State Police, to develop programs for officer and retiree wellness and resiliency and Critical Incident Stress Management. He collaborates with IACP in initiatives, including Family Wellness and Resiliency. He co-chairs the Officer Suicide Prevention Working Group of the Officer Safety and Organizational Wellness Section of IACP. He is a Board Member of the New England Crisis Negotiators Association and a member of the National Tactical Officers Association. He is an active hostage negotiator and consultant to several municipal police departments, the Connecticut State Police, and the FBI. Dr. Keane is the Past President and current Board member of the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology. He is a consultant, frequent presenter, and trainer on topics related to police psychology.
