Sergeant Terry Cherry has been with the Charleston Police Department in Charleston, South Carolina since 2012 and is currently serving as a patrol supervisor. In 2020, SPO Cherry was selected as an NIJ LEADS Scholar and was the recipient of IACP’s 40 under 40. She previously served on the working group for the National Policing Institute’s Council for Police Reforms and Race and is a National Policing Institute Fellow. Sergeant Cherry is recognized as a national expert in police recruitment and retention and has been published in various academic journals, IACP Police Chief Magazine, and Police1. Sergeant Cherry holds a BA from UCLA, an MBA from Pepperdine University and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Public Administration from Valdosta State Universtiy.
