Michael Sullivan began serving as the Phoenix, Arizona Police Chief in September of 2022. He is a veteran law enforcement officer with nearly three decades experience in three major cities. Previously he worked as a Deputy Commissioner with the Baltimore Police Department in Baltimore, Maryland. He led efforts to fight crime and reform the department. Prior to that, he spent 25-years in Louisville, Kentucky, rising to second in command of the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Chief Sullivan is a graduate of the: Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course, IACP Business Fellowship, FBI National Academy, MacArthur Foundation Institute on Juvenile Justice, and the Major Cities Chiefs Association Police Executive Leadership Institute.
In 2018, the Police Executive Research Forum awarded Chief Sullivan the prestigious Gary P. Hayes Award, which recognizes national leaders in the policing profession.
He currently serves on the IACP Human and Civil Rights Committee.
Sullivan earned a bachelor’s degree in Police Administration and a master’s degree in Administration of Justice from the University of Louisville.
