Mayor Jon Nehring appointed Erik Scairpon as the ninth Chief of Police
for the City of Marysville, WA, on September 21, 2020. The Vision of the
Marysville Police Department is "Service with Honor." Scairpon serves as
the Police Chief for a rapidly growing city of 73,780 residents. Marysville
PD has an annual budget of over $24 million, supporting 80
commissioned police officers, 25 custody officers running a correctional
facility, and 27 professional staff. He works to build public trust and value
employees, practice dispersed ethical leadership, help communities
recover from mass violence incidents, and meet under-served crime
victims' needs.
Chief Scairpon previously served as a Captain with the Redmond Police
Department overseeing the Operations division. Since 1998, Scairpon
rose through the ranks working in various roles with the Redmond Police
Department. Erik Scairpon attended the Police Executive Research
Forum's Senior Management Institute for Police. He earned a master's
degree in Organizational Leadership from Saint Mary's University of
Minnesota and holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University
of Washington.
In 2021, Chief Scairpon was appointed by the Governor of Washington to
serve a six-year term as a Commissioner for the State's Criminal Justice
Training Academy. Scairpon volunteers his time with Victim Support
Services, a statewide crime victim’s advocacy, education, and awareness
non-profit, and participates as a regional leader in the Special Olympics
Washington Law Enforcement Torch Run.
