Nicola “Dr. Nikki” Smith-Kea, PhD is a boundary spanner/scholar-practitioner. She is the founder of Smith-Kea Consulting, having expertise in policing at the intersection of mental health, substance use, and homelessness; community engagement; policy development; gender equity; and policing reform.
As a Stoneleigh Fellow and Executive in Residence with the Philadelphia PD, she worked towards advancing internal accountability, officer safety and wellness, and healthy police-community engagement. She worked on implementing a number of reform efforts including an Early Intervention System and more.
Dr. Nikki was the Criminal Justice Manager at Arnold Ventures, overseeing a diverse portfolio. She also served as a senior policy analyst and TA manager at the CSG Justice Center, working with a broad spectrum of law enforcement agencies to promote healthy police/mental health collaborations.
She holds a bachelor's in psychology and sociology, and a master’s in sociology from the University of the West Indies, a master’s in criminology and criminal justice from the University of Maryland, and a master’s and PhD in leadership and change from Antioch University.
