Bita spent the first eight years of her legal career as a trial attorney at the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office. She then worked as trial counsel at the California State Bar, prosecuting and disbarring attorneys who had committed misconduct and ethics violations. For the past 14 years, Bita has been serving in an oversight role of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, focusing on promoting constitutional policing and the fair and impartial administration of justice. During her tenure at the Office of Independent Review (OIR) and the Los Angeles County Office of Inspector General (OIG), she regularly reviews and analyzes significant use of force and deputy-involved shooting investigations.
Bita earned a BA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a JD from the University of California Law, San Francisco (Formerly UC Hastings).
