Ed O’Carroll began his public career as an emergency medical technician and assistant chief of an ambulance squad in Hauppauge, New York. As a young adult, Ed relocated to Virginia and began his service with the Fairfax County Police Department on September 11, 1989, and retired as a major/bureau chief in 2023. During his 33-year law enforcement career, Ed served in every position from cadet to major. His most recent assigment was serving as the bureau chief of Major Crimes, Cyber and Forensics which oversaw all criminal/violent crime investigations, victim services, search and rescue, human trafficking, missing persons, crime scene, digisital forensics and the Language Services Support Unit.
Ed currently serves as the executive counselor for the Refuse to Be A Victim program, and has lectured all across the United States, teaching thousands of people the aspects of personal safety. He also presents on the importance of advancing DNA testing and utilizing forensic investigative genetic genealogy (FIGG) to solve the unsolved, and identify Jane and John Doe cases, who deserve their name back.
