Urban Peace Institute
Fernando Rejón serves as executive director of Urban Peace Institute (UPI) with over 22 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. He leads UPI’s efforts to create community safety and dismantle harmful systems to ensure freedom from violence and transform justice. UPI’s work comprises five pillars that guide its vision including training & technical assistance, research & evaluation, policy, advocacy, and capacity building. In 2008, he began his work to build the Urban Peace Academy as a platform to train community violence intervention (CVI) workers, law enforcement, community stakeholders, and public officials.
Fernando authored the LA Peace Plan, a transformative vision for community safety in Los Angeles for the next 10 years. He has emerged as a national thought leader on addressing complex issues around neighborhood violence, policing, and policy development. He holds a B.A. in Sociology and Communication Studies from the University of San Diego, M.A. in Chican@ Studies from California State University, Northridge, and certificate from the Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Program for Non-Profit Leaders.
