Director of Street Work
United Teen Equality Center (UTEC)
Lowell, Massachusetts, United States
Jose is currently a father of 3, and has dedicated his life to his kids and working with young adults from his community who have been misguided just like he once was. Jose got an opportunity in 2019 to work for an organization by the name UTEC. UTEC serves young adults that are proven high risk. He mentors the young adults and helps them with any crisis that may arise. Jose is certified in peace circle keeping/ Restorative justice circles and continues his work at UTEC as the Director of Outreach and Streetworkers. Jose also works with the Reentry team to support young adults behind the wall. Due to unfortunate circumstances at an early age Jose experienced physical and mental abuse. The lack of role models made Jose look elsewhere and he learned from the older men in the corner of his neighborhood. Jose's lifestyle and involvement in the streets landed him in a youth center facing a life sentence at the age of 13, Jose was eventually tried as an adult and transferred into the adult system on his 15th birthday. While behind the wall Jose managed to educate himself and obtain his High School diploma. Jose was released in 2003, and has since been dedicated to his community and the youth.
