Deputy United States Marshal Damian Fernandez graduated from the University of Texas in El Paso (UTEP) with a bachelor’s in psychology and a minor in spanish while also serving in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) Reserve Unit. His unit was activated in 2005 and he served as an adjunct military police officer in Ar Ramadi, Iraq. Upon graduating from UTEP in 2008, he accepted a job offer from the United States Marshals Service (USMS). He completed the FLETC-1811 Criminal Investigator Program and the USMS Basic Academy in November of 2008. His first post was El Paso and spent the next 10 years there. While in El Paso, he was able to make it into the task force after only 3 years in service, and became a team leader only a year after that. His passion has always been international investigations knowing that his knowledge of Mexican culture could give him an upper hand while investigating fugitives who have fled international boundaries. He became part of the Mexico Investigative Liaison Team and has successfully apprehended over 100 fugitives in Mexico. Currently, DUSM Fernandez is assigned to the USMS Western District of Texas in San Antonio.
