Director of Community Engagement
Chicago (IL) Police Department
Chicago, Illinois, United States
Glen Brooks is the Director of Community Policing for the Chicago Police Department, boasting over 20 years of experience as a community leader and organizer. His dedication to serving Chicago's residents began as a volunteer beat facilitator for the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy
In 2003, Brooks officially joined the CPD as an Area Coordinator, responsible for managing a team of community organizers, youth service coordinators, and city service representatives across 5 police districts. His tenure saw the creation and implementation of the “Don’t Kill A Dream, Save A Life” gun turn-in and violence prevention program, which led to the collection of over 29,000 firearms, the largest number of voluntarily surrendered firearms in the U.S. since 2006. In addition, Brooks lobbied for gun control legislation, working with legislative offices to promote these critical issues.
As Director of Community Policing, Brooks oversees the CPD’s community engagement strategy. His responsibilities include designing and managing programs that address gang and gun violence, ex-offender re-entry, youth development, and increasing community access to city services.
