Lieutenant Colonel Likens began his career with the Illinois State Police in 1997 working patrol, vehicle Investigations and special enforcement. In 2006 he was promoted to Sergeant. In 2009 he was promoted to Master Sergeant in Crime Scene Services. In 2012 he was assigned as a squad leader for violent crimes and later the Director of Tri County Auto Theft Task Force. in 2015 he was promoted to Lieutenant as a group supervisor in Chicago HIDTA. In 2021 he was promoted to Captain of Zone 1 Investigations.
in September 2022 he was appointed Major assigned to the Chicago area Unified Command. While is this role he worked in conjunction with Patrol and Forensic Services to combat expressway violence in the Chicago area while also supervising investigative efforts throughout Northern Illinois.
In April 2023 he was appointed as Assistant Deputy Director for the Division of Criminal Investigations Statewide Investigative Command.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Management from Benedictine University and attended Northwestern University SPSC serving as the Vice President of Class #473 where he was awarded the Franklin M. Kreml Leadership award.
