Bharathi Venkatraman has served DOJ as a federal prosecutor, Special Counsel for Trafficking in Persons, Acting Deputy Chief, and US Attorney's Office Coordinator. She was a lead prosecutor in US v. Lakireddy, a high-profile human trafficking case, for which she was a finalist for Federal Employee of the Year. She has worked many complex investigations, including US v. Arpaio. Bharathi has been a repeat faculty member at the National Advocacy Center, DOJ's official training center, teaching courses on human trafficking, use of interpreters in criminal cases, police investigations, and other topics. She has trained judges; federal, state, and local LEOs; Assistant US Attorneys; and police and prosecutors in foreign countries. Bharathi has appeared on C-SPAN, and her articles are featured in the DOJ Journal, US Attorneys' Bulletin, Police Chief Magazine, and American University Law Review. She co-wrote a chapter on child exploitation for a medical textbook published by GW Publishing. Early in her career, Bharathi prosecuted domestic violence and sex offense cases at the US Attorney’s Office in DC. She joined DOJ in 1996 under the Attorney General’s Honor Program.
