Deborah Meader, a Senior Policy Advisor with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), U.S. Department of Justice, leads BJA’s robust officer safety and wellness portfolio - the VALOR Initiative, the largest officer safety and wellness program of its kind, nationally. Her work brings no-cost officer safety and wellness training, assistance, and resources to our nation’s law enforcement. Ms. Meader has 20+ years building knowledge and relationships in the law enforcement and officer safety and wellness field. Her specialized experience guides, designs, and implements innovative, research based, and field-enhancing programs for law enforcement. Prior to BJA, Ms. Meader worked for Lockheed Martin, in support of the National Institute of Justice’s Office of Science and Technology. She assisted with the management of numerous projects focused on research, development, and dissemination of state-of-the-art technology to state and local law enforcement. Ms. Meader began her professional career as a police officer with the Montgomery County (MD) Police Department, after earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland.
