Ms. Kristie Brackens has been with the Department of Justice since 2007. She currently serves as the Associate Deputy Director over the Law Enforcement Innovation and Crime Reduction Unit at the Bureau of Justice Assistance. She supervises a team focused on enhancing the capacity of local jurisdictions to better address violent crime and increase public safety through exposing law enforcement and local communities to innovative and evidence-based promising strategies that reduce violent crime, promote public trust, support crime victims, and ensure that underserved and marginalized communities' benefit from BJA resources. Prior to joining BJA in 2014, she worked as a Juvenile Justice Specialist within the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) State, where she lead that Defending Childhood Initiative. During her time at OJJDP, she worked extensively on issues of reentry, juvenile justice systems improvement, youth violence, children’s exposure to violence, and addressing racial disparities within the juvenile justice system.
Ms. Brackens holds a Master Public Administration and Master of Science degree in Justice Studies.
