Commander Jeffrey Kopp joined the Metropolitan Police Department in September 2007 and currently serves as the commander of the Violent Crime Suppression Division. Chief Pamela A. Smith appointed him to this position in November 2023. As part of the Investigative Services Bureau, the Violent Crime Suppression Division is responsible for investigating and disrupting violent crime in the District of Columbia through the intelligence-led interdiction of robbery and carjacking offenses, the recovery of illegal firearms, the investigation of drug trafficking organizations, and the apprehension of wanted fugitives. Commander Kopp also oversees the activities of Task Force Officers assigned to various federal law enforcement agencies.
Commander Kopp previously served in the First and Fifth Patrol Districts, the Criminal Investigations Division, the Special Operations Division, and the Youth and Family Services Division. Kopp is a 2023 graduate of the DC Police Leadership Academy and a 2024 graduate of the DEA's Drug Unit Commander's Academy. He proudly served his country on both active and reserve duty with the United States Marine Corps from 2003 to 2014.
