Captain III Laura Curtin holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Humboldt State University. She worked as a Registered Nurse at a trauma center, then pursued her aspirations of becoming a police officer and joined the LAPD in 1997.
Laura has worked various assignments, including the Venice Beach Detail, Hype Car, and Gang Enforcement Detail. While assigned to the Venice Beach Detail, she became certified as a Drug Recognition Expert.
In 2008, Captain Curtin was promoted to sergeant at the Southwest Division. Two years later, she transferred back to Pacific Division, supervised the Venice Beach Detail, and was then promoted to Assistant Watch Commander.
She was promoted to Lieutenant in 2015 at Southeast Division and, in 2016, to Commanding Officer of Southeast Detectives. Laura was selected as the Officer-in-Charge of C-Platoon, Metropolitan Division, in 2020 and then the Officer-in-Charge of Mounted Platoon. In July 2021, she was promoted to Captain at Southeast Division. In March 2022, Captain Curtin was upgraded to Assistant Commanding Officer of Force Investigation Division, and in March 2023, assigned as the Commanding Officer of Major Crimes Division.
