John Pelletier, the Chief of Police of the Maui Police Department, brings 25 years of law enforcement experience to his role. He was appointed Chief of Police in 2021 and now oversees over 400 employees. In this capacity, he is responsible for public safety on the islands of Maui, Molokai, and Lanai.
Chief Pelletier began his law enforcement career with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and led the SWAT, K9, and the Narcotics/Major Violator Section. During his time in Las Vegas, he was in charge of the Las Vegas Strip and served as the incident commander for the One October (Route 91/Mandalay Bay) mass casualty incident.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy's 276th class.
Chief Pelletier is known for his dedication to transparency, officer wellness, and the implementation of progressive policing strategies.
