Chief James Olson was appointed to lead the DeForest Police Department in March 2019. He oversees all areas of the Department as well as provides strategic management of the agency. Since his appointment, he has added systems of accountability and transparency to demonstrate a commitment to the highest standards of professional policing. Chief Olson instituted a Code of Conduct that holds members accountable for their behavior related to the Department’s values and has implemented a data-driven policing strategy.
Chief Olson began his career in the Milwaukee Police Department. After a 29-year career, he accepted the position of Chief of Police in the DeForest, Wisconsin.
Chief Olson has also worked with the International Association of Chiefs of Police as a Master Leadership Instructor. He works with agencies around the world to enhance their leadership abilities and to prepare them for the challenges they face in a challenging environment.
Chief Olson holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a Criminal Justice Specialization from Northcentral University and is also a graduate of Northwestern University, School of Police Staff and Command.
