Emir Perez is a 1997 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and minors in Sociology and Spanish. His law enforcement journey began as a Pre-trial Services Investigator for the Travis County Juvenile Probation Department where he served from 2000 to 2010. In 2010, Perez joined the US Marshals Service where he currently serves as a Deputy US Marshal assigned to the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force-Austin, Division. Over his 14-year career, he has worked in two divisions including the El Paso, Texas Division, where he was assigned to the El Paso Police Department’s Gang Unit from 2013 to 2014. He then worked as team leader with the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force until 2018. Throughout his tenure, he has been instrumental in apprehending well over a thousand violent fugitives, including serial rapists, serial killers, kidnappers, murderers, and Texas Top Ten offenders. His work as a criminal fugitive investigator extends internationally, collaborating with law enforcement agencies in Canada, Spain, Mexico, and Costa Rica often through Interpol, to secure the extradition or deportation of high-profile fugitives.
