Deputy Chief John Lieb has been with the Fairfax County, VA. Police Department for more than 20 years and serves as the Commander of the Internal Affairs Bureau, overseeing investigations of serious misconduct, deployments of force resulting in serious injury or death, bias-based policing investigations and all matters of civil action against the agency. Deputy Chief Lieb works collaboratively with two civilian oversight bodies to ensure internal investigations represent the highest standards of ethics and integrity. Deputy Chief Lieb is also responsible for maintaining the FCPD’s dual accreditation by both the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc (CALEA) and the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC).
Deputy Chief Lieb has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, along with a graduate certificate in forensic science and law, from Duquesne University. Deputy Chief Lieb is a graduate of the Professional Executive Leadership School through the VACP and the Leadership in Police Organizations curriculum through the IACP. Deputy Chief Lieb is scheduled to attend the FBI National Academy in the spring.
