Law enforcement officers are a ubiquitous presence in the community and are therefore a unique resource for immediate medical intervention. However, police officers are not healthcare professionals, and therefore have limitations to following classic healthcare delivery objectives. The nature of law enforcement also places officers in a challenging positions when working with people who use drugs. We have found the naloxone program to be a resounding success. The presenters will share lessons learned from New York State's law enforcement naloxone program, and offer advice and additional directions for saving lives from overdose.
