This seems to be the age of the desperate hire and the "good enough" promotion. Identifying those with just a heartbeat, putting up with bad behavior, and giving people promotions based on seniority or their ability to pass a test instead of a proven history of leadership, interpersonal skills, and character create more problems than they solve. The reality is fewer people want to work in public safety, but policing can’t be a victim of circumstance. Ultimately, lowering standards, expectations, and competencies increases risk and liability. This workshop will explore the mindset and variables that create desperation and how to overcome them; the liability and risks that are often ignored; and strategies, tools, and practices that attract fits, help develop leaders, and ensure a positive future.
