Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) serve as a promising tool to reduce gun violence, and they exist in 21 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Strong champions and interagency collaboration are pivotal to successfully implementing ERPO programs. Two jurisdictions from opposite ends of the country, King County, Washington, and Washington, DC, have shown successful collaborations between law enforcement and prosecutors to effectively use ERPOs to reduce violence. Both jurisdictions accomplish this through interagency coordination, communication, responsiveness, and the willingness to think creatively throughout the implementation process. In this panel, attendees will hear from law enforcement and prosecutors working to implement their jurisdiction's ERPO law.
