Worldwide, governmental activity to regulate or provide guidance for governance of AI accelerated significantly at the end of 2023 and into 2024.In the European Union, the AI Act has moved forward in establishing a framework for both governmental and nongovernmental use of AI. In the United Sates, an Executive Order (E.O. 14110) has been promulgated to address the use of AI by the federal government and in other contexts. The U.S. government also issued an AI Bill of Rights focused on the use of AI consistent with protection of civil liberties. Building on last year’s discussion of AI risk management frameworks, this presentation will focus on providing law enforcement legal practitioners with insights on current trends in the regulations relevant to law enforcement use of AI.
