Special Agent in Charge, Denver Field Office

FBI Director Christopher Wray named Mark Michalek as the special agent in charge of the Denver Field Office in January 2023. Mr. Michalek most recently served as a section chief in the Human Resources Division at FBI Headquarters, where he oversaw the mental fitness and well-being programs.
Mr. Michalek joined the FBI as a special agent in 2005 and was assigned to the Houston Field Office, where he worked violent crime matters. In 2014, Mr. Michalek was promoted to supervisory special agent and transferred to FBI Headquarters, where he oversaw the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitive Program. Mr. Michalek returned to Houston in 2016 to lead a public corruption squad.
In 2020, Mr. Michalek was appointed as an assistant special agent in charge of the San Diego Field Office, where he oversaw the crisis management, bomb technician, and SWAT programs.
Mr. Michalek earned a bachelor's degree in behavioral science from the U.S. Air Force Academy and a master's in public administration from Penn State.
At the age of five, Mr. Michalek lost his father, a police officer, to suicide. He is a strong advocate for promoting wellness and resilience for law enforcement personnel and their families.
