Chief Myron Demkiw is a 34-year veteran of the Toronto Police Service, Canada’s largest municipal police service.
Leading the Command team, he oversees 7,400 officers and civilians, and drives a Service mandate of successful policing being achieved through building trust and community engagement. The Service has recently launched its first Equity Strategy to support this commitment. Chief Demkiw’s extensive focus on community engagement informed his work as an architect of the Service’s approach to preventing and dealing with gun and gang violence, an issue of key concern for Toronto residents.
Chief Demkiw is a respected policing leader in North America for his commitment to counter-terrorism and national security. He is engaged nationally and internationally on these issues, which are of critical importance in a city of the size of Toronto, one of the most diverse cities in the world.
A graduate of the University of Toronto, Chief Demkiw holds a Master of Laws degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in both Criminology and Political Science.
