Lieutenant Anthony Gibson began his career at the Charleston Police Department as an intern in 2013. He has held several positions, including Patrol Officer in Team 1, Patrol Training Officer, Team 1 Investigator, Detective in the burglary and robbery units, Patrol Sergeant in Teams 1 and 4, and Supervisor of the Recruitment and Retention Unit. He also served as the Public Information Officer and a member of the department's Crisis Negotiation Team. Currently, Lieutenant Gibson is the Commander of the Office of Public Affairs, overseeing the public information team, recruitment and hiring, grants coordination, and acting as the liaison with the dispatch center. He has a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in public administration. He is a National Institute of Justice LEADS Scholar, a Fellow with the National Policing Institute, and a research partner with the National Police Staffing Observatory at Michigan State University. Additionally, Lieutenant Gibson serves as the co-chair of the American Society of Evidence-Based Policing.
