Chief Eric Clifford is a lifelong resident of Schenectady New York. He joined the Schenectady Police Department in 2002 and worked his way through the ranks as a patrolman, Sergeant, Public Information Officer, Platoon Commander, and Detective Lieutenant. While in the Detective Division he coordinated their New York Division of Criminal Justice Services funded programs Operation Impact and Gun Involved Violence Elimination (G.I.V.E.) Initiative. In 2016 he was chosen to be the 20th Chief of Police for the Schenectady Police Department, established in 1870. Chief Clifford is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session #274 and the Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar Session #79. Throughout his tenure, he has spearheaded initiatives aimed at reducing crime, enhancing training methodologies, fostering community trust, and integrating cutting-edge technology to bolster public safety efforts. Over the past eight years, Chief Clifford has steered the Schenectady Police Department with a steadfast dedication to excellence, leveraging his expertise to effectuate positive change and ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
