Vice President
Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners
Los Angeles, California, United States
Rasha Gerges Shields is Vice President of the Los Angeles Police Commission, a five member civilian oversight board. She is a former federal prosecutor with more than 20 years of trial and appellate experience. For more than seven years, she served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Central District of California, including as deputy chief of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Section. Commissioner Shields is now a partner at the law firm of Jones Day.
In 2020, she was appointed to Co-Chair the Police Commission’s Advisory Committee on Building Trust & Equity. As a result of the after action report recommendations arising out of the 2020 civil unrest, she co-chaired the Department’s Implementation Committee. She was also appointed by the UCLA Chancellor in 2021 to co-chair UCLA's public safety efforts. In March 2023, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass appointed her to the Police Commission, and for the last year, she has served as Vice President of the Commission. Officer wellness and morale has been one of her top priorities as a commissioner, in addition to more traditional areas of focus such as police accountability.
