Psychology Professor

Dr. Arble is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Eastern Michigan University and a Fully Licensed Psychologist in the state of Michigan. A central aspect of Dr. Arble’s research is the use of mixed methods to further the scientific understanding of the direct and indirect pathways linking trauma to adverse mental health outcomes among police officers and other first responders. In intervention research among high-stress occupations, he has demonstrated that resilience strategies can be embedded within diverse contexts, and that these strategies can yield important psycho-emotional benefits that are longitudinally robust, translating to an increased use of coping techniques, decreases in substance use, and preventing the emergence of trauma and anxiety symptoms. Finally, he has also investigated the contextual factors affecting professionals’ well-being and clinical functioning, in particular, managing the systems-level disruptions that can follow from substance use and exposure to severe relational distress.
