Major Tabatha McLemore began her law enforcement career with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) in 2003 on patrol and then into covert operations.
While a Sergeant and Lieutenant she oversaw many critical units, including General Detectives, Downtown Violence Crime Task Force, Bike Unit and the city-wide Homeless Unit and Mobile Crisis Assistance Teams (MCAT).
In February 2024, Major McLemore was appointed Major in charge of the new Operations Support Bureau. She oversees the Homeless Unit, MCAT, and IMPD Park Rangers, and serves as a liaison between IMPD and various city entities. Her role includes coordinating departments for resource optimization and addressing public health, and provide community services for a more integrated and responsive public safety strategy.
Beyond local work, Major McLemore participated in the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) panel on Homelessness and Law Enforcement in Washington, D.C., and spoke at the NIJ National Research Conference. She serves as Vice Chair of the Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center (SEMHC) Advisory Board and is a member of the Indianapolis Airport Public Safety Advisory Group.
