Jonathan Riley, a graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, joined the Austin Police Department in 2005. Currently, he serves as a Sergeant in the Special Investigations Unit, where he leads the investigation of law enforcement critical incidents and allegations of criminal conduct against law enforcement officers and other public servants.
Prior to this, Jonathan spent eleven years as a detective, serving in various assignments, including Sex Crimes, Child Abuse, Special Investigations, and the Tactical Intelligence Unit. As a member of the Tactical Intelligence Unit, he was deputized as a Special Deputy United States Marshal with the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force – Austin. During his six years on the task force, Jonathan participated in and led over a thousand fugitive apprehension operations, including many high-profile investigations, such as the murder of USAF Airman Austin Burroughs, the apprehension of Charles Curry, and the Austin Serial Bomber in 2018.
Jonathan has earned numerous commendations and awards and recently completed the FBI-LEEDA Supervisor Leadership Institute.
