Dr. Melissa S. Morabito is a Professor at University Massachusetts Lowell in the School of Criminology & Justice Studies . She has an MSW from Columbia University and received her Ph.D. in Justice, Law and Society from American University. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health funded Center for Mental Health Services and Criminal Justice Research. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Morabito was a policy analyst at the Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Most recently, she is the Principal Investigator on a Bureau of Justice Assistance funded grant, "Identifying Points of Intervention: A Collaboration between Boston Emergency Services Team & the Boston Police Department" 15PBJA-23-GG-01466-MENT. Her research interests include understanding the intersection between police and public health challenges such as mental illness, domestic violence and substance use. Her work has been published in Criminology & Public Policy, Crime & Delinquency and Psychiatric Services.
