Sergeant Detective John Burrows is an 18-year veteran of the Boston Police Department. He has had various assignments throughout his career to include the Youth Violence Strike Force, Homicide detective and patrol sergeant. Prior to his time as a police officer, Sergeant Detective Burrows was an Emergency Medical Technician and served as a Navy Corpsman assigned to a Marine Corps infantry battalion during the Iraq war in 2004.
Sergeant Detective Burrows began teaching the Stop the Bleed class to his fellow officers and to the community in 2022. He believed that the Stop the Bleed program could serve as a useful community outreach tool. The Boston Police Department now has dozens of instructors and have taught hundreds of community members the importance of hemorrhage control.
