Lieutenant Detective John J. Fitzgerald is a lifelong resident of Boston and has been a Boston Police Officer for 29 years. He is currently assigned as the Commander of the District B-3 (Mattapan) Detective Unit.
Before his current assignment, he was assigned as a uniformed shift commander, a sergeant detective in the Special Investigations Unit and Criminal Investigations Division, a sergeant in the Youth Violence Strike Force, and a police officer in the Citywide Drug Control Unit.
Lieutenant Detective Fitzgerald has been an adjunct instructor at the Boston Police Academy for over 15 years and trains all ranks within the agency. He has an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Western New England College and a Graduate Degree in Criminal Justice from Lasell University.
Lieutenant Detective Fitzgerald has received many awards throughout his career including the Boston Police Foundation Outstanding Supervision Award and the New England Narcotics Enforcement Officer's Association Sherman C. Griffiths Award for Excellence in a Narcotics Investigation.
