Dr. Jeffrey Lopes is the current President of the Massachusetts Association of Minority Law Enforcement Officers (MAMLEO). He is also a Boston Police Detective assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit. Dr. Lopes also serves as a lecturer of criminology and criminal justice at Emmanuel College.
His previous assignments include various neighborhood districts, the Bureau of Community Engagement and the School Police Unit. In 2017, he founded We Belong, an organization that works with promising young men and women to empower them to be strong leaders in their communities. Lopes is always focused on creating opportunities and successful pathways for young people in Boston.
Lopes graduated from Suffolk University with a Bachelor's of Science in Sociology - Crime and Justice Studies and a Master of Public Administration degree with a concentration in Public Safety. He also completed his Doctorate of Law and Policy at Northeastern University.
He previously served on Boston Mayor Kim Janey’s transition team as Co-Chair of the Safety, Justice and Healing. He was recently appointed by MA Governor Healey to the Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee.
