Lieutenant Colonel James Whitcomb is an accomplished commander with twenty-six years of service as a member of the Vermont State Police. He oversees the Department’s Support Services Division, including recruitment efforts, trooper training, ongoing development programs, dispatch centers, fleet services, and the embedded mental health crisis worker program. Lieutenant Colonel Whitcomb has held various leadership roles during his career, including five years as the Department’s Field Force Division commander and earlier in his career as Director of VSP Internal Affairs. He was a long-time member and then commander of the Department’s Underwater Recovery Team. He held various positions in the Department’s Criminal Division, with expertise in major crime investigations and forensic processing. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Saint Michael’s College and a teaching licensure in Social Studies for Secondar Education. Lieutenant Colonel Whitcomb and his wife, Holly, are the proud parents of three wonderful boys.
