Deputy Chief John McMahon is a 35-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, with expertise in the areas of law enforcement technology, use of force and counterterrorism. As the Chief Information Officer, Deputy Chief McMahon oversees the strategic development and implementation of a comprehensive effort to modernize the Department. He has also shaped key organizational changes and technology-based solutions while leading technology operations that supports the needs of individual officers and the entire Department.
Deputy Chief McMahon received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of La Verne and is a graduate of the West Point Leadership Academy and Executive Leadership at USC’s Sol Price School of Public Policy. Deputy Chief McMahon is a member of the IACP Tech committee, the National Tactical Officers Association and the Real Time Crime Center Association. Chief McMahon is certified by the Force Science Institute as an Advanced Force Specialist. He also consults on law enforcement best practices with emphasis on police tactics, use force; technology procurment, implementation and organizaional success.
