Assistant Chief Sean Gallagher joined the U.S. Capitol Police in 2001. In 2005, he was promoted to Sergeant and served in the House Division and the Intelligence Section. In 2008, he was promoted to Lieutenant and served as the Assistant Commander of the Investigations Division until 2010. From 2010 through 2018, he served in leadership roles in Protective Services and Uniform Services. In 2019, he was promoted to Deputy Chief and was assigned to lead the Protective Services Bureau. In June 2021 he assumed the role of the Acting Assistant Chief of Uniformed Operations. In October of 2023, he was promoted to Assistant Chief of Police. Highlights of his career include his leadership roles during the 2012 and 2020 National Conventions, Commander of the 2015 Papal Task Force for Pope Francis's visit to the U.S. Capitol, and Commander of the 58th Presidential Inauguration in 2017. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Administration of Justice. Assistant Chief Gallagher also received a Master’s Degree in Public Safety from the University of Virginia in 2022. He is also a 2018 graduate of the FBI NAand a 2023 graduate of the PERF's SMIP.
