Special Agent (SA) Jaquelyn Garcia was hired by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in November 2017. Upon graduating the DEA Academy, SA Garcia was assigned to the San Ysidro District Office Group 72. Pursuant to this assignment, SA Garcia investigated Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations (DTOs) involved in the distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and counterfeit pharmaceutical pills containing fentanyl.
In March 2020, SA Garcia was reassigned to the San Diego Field Division (SDFD) Narcotics Task Force - Team 10 (Fentanyl Overdose Response Team). The SDFD Team 10 is a fast-paced reactive team, operational 24 hours per day in service to the cities of San Diego and La Mesa, CA. While a member of Team 10, SA Garcia responded to more than 300 suspected overdose death related scenes, where she investigated, developed, and assisted in cases that led to state and federal prosecutions. SA Garcia developed expert knowledge in fentanyl, fentanyl safety, overdose investigations and thus, distinguished herself as an expert in Fentanyl Overdose Investigations. SA Garcia developed and trained entities, both in the law enforcement and civilian communities, not only in the greater San Diego area, but also across the United States. Additionally, SA Garcia participated and provided her expertise at DEA’s OD JUSTICE Seminar and assisted in the development of the DEA Drug Poisoning Investigations Standard Operating Procedure.
While working with SDFD Team 10, SA Garcia appeared in the HBO documentary “Crime of the Century,” for overdose investigations and apprehension of fentanyl distributors.
In June 2023, while representing DEA, SA Garcia was awarded Peace Officer the Year.
In July 2023, SA Garcia transferred to the DEA Miami Field Division Enforcement Group 13 where she is currently assigned. SA Garcia conducts proactive investigations of DTOs operating in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. SA Garcia continues to conduct Fentanyl Overdose Investigation trainings and is currently developing partnerships with local and state entities in support of fentanyl poisoning investigations in Southern Florida.
SA Garcia has a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from the University of Indiana Northwest and is a DEA certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), DEA certified Clandestine Laboratory Technician, and a DEA Field Training Agent (FTA).
