William G. Brooks III retired in April as Chief of the Norwood, Massachusetts Police Department following a career of over 47 years. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and represented IACP on the FBI CJIS Advisory Policy Board. He is currently chair of the IACP Firearms Committee.
Chief Brooks presents nationally on eyewitness identification, often in conjunction with the Innocence Project. He served as a member of the committee at the National Academy of Sciences that issued the report "Identifying the Culprit" and served on the Third Circuit Task Force on Eyewitness Identification. He was the 2012 recipient of the Innocence Network’s Champion of Justice Award and in 2015 received the IACP’s Civil Rights Award for Individual Achievement for his work with the Innocence Project. In 2019 Chief Brooks was named Chief of the Year by the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association.
Chief Brooks is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 175th Session.
